Independent study

The independent study course is a tutorial designed to meet the particular needs of an individual student. Such course work can be taken for credit, providing the arrangements have been made with the faculty instructor after consultation with a faculty advisor. The permission of the Chairman of the Department is required when the pro-posed independent study course involves either a faculty member of that department or a department’s course. The permission of the Academic Dean is always required. The contents and standards of an Independent Study Course are equivalent to a regular academic offering. An Independent Study Course should not normally substitute for required course credit and should be undertaken only under special circumstances.
