Bachelor of Arts candidates must develop the capacity to study and minister in English. Students whose native language is not English, will take an English proficiency test upon admission. According to the proficiency reached students would take English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, preparation for the test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or College level English courses.

  • To be effective leaders of ministry in the United States, a sufficient level of English must be achieved. Thus, students whose native language is not English must achieve a satisfactory score in the TOEFL and in the Test of Written English (TWE) before graduation.

St. John Vianney College Seminary English language program has the following objectives:

  • To help students whose native language is not English to reach a level of proficiency that would allow them to reach a satisfactory score in TOEFL and TWE.
  • To aid students in their pronunciation.
    To facilitate the continuing development of the students' ability to communicate in verbal and written English.
    To expose students to different literary genres.
  • To familiarize students with the growth of English literature from its Anglo-Saxon roots up to .the present.
