SPA 151 - FUNDAMENTALS OF SPANISH I (3)
For students beginning Spanish or for those whose high school background has not fitted them for the Intermediate level. Emphasis is placed upon basic grammatical forms and essential syntax.

SPA 152 - FUNDAMENTALS OF SPANISH II (s) A continuation of SPA 151.

SPA 251 - INTRODUCTION TO SPANISH I (3)
A more advanced study of language structures.

SPA 252 - INTRODUCTION TO SPANISH II (3) A continuation of SPA 251

SPA 301 - SPANISH CONVERSATION AND
COMPOSITION I (3)

Practical usage of the Spanish language. This course is designed for those whose first language is not Spanish. Pre-requisite: SPA 152 or equivalent.

SPA 302 - SPANISH CONVERSATION AND
COMPOSITION II p)

A continuation of SPA 301.

SPA 320 - ADVANCED GRAMMAR I (3)
Morphology and Syntax of the Spanish language, with practice in composition. This course is specially designed for students whose first language is Spanish.

SPA 321 - ADVANCED GRAMMAR II (3) A continuation of SPA 320.

SPA 335 - INTRODUCTION TO LITERATURE (3)
An overview of representative works of Hispanic literature, with emphasis on the analysis of the different genres: poetry, narrative, theater and essay.

SPA 350 - SPANISH CIVILIZATION (3)
A survey of Spanish Civilization from the beginning to the present. Pre-requisite: SPA 302 or equivalent.

SPA 351 - SPANISH AMERICAN CIVILIZATION (3) (fc. HIS 306 if taught in Spanish.)

SPA 410 - SPANISH LITERATURE TO 1700 (s)
A survey of Spanish literary history as reflected in selected masterpieces from its origins to 1700. Pre-requisite: SPA-302 or equivalent.

SPA 420 - SPANISH-AMERICAN LITERATURE I (3)
A critical study of the evolution of Spanish-American literature from its origins to the present. Concentrates on notable authors who are considered indispensable to a basic knowledge of the literature of Spanish America. Pre-requisite: SPA 302 or equivalent.

SPA 421 - SPANISH-AMERICAN LITERATURE II (3) A continuation of SPA 420.

SPA 490 - INDEPENDENT STUDY (var)
The topic is selected to meet the academic needs of individual students.
